Birnam Arts Studio Residency

In February 2022 I started. A Studio Access Residency at Birnam Arts. This has provided me with regular weekly access to the studio space and more importantly encouraged me to set aside time each week to develop my work.
The work in question is part of a project with fellow Artist Nicky May Bolland (nickymay.co.uk). This collaborative project seeks to explore our personal journeys and relationships with the natural world, interrogating what brought us to our roles as nature lovers and outdoor educators. Using play and paths as central themes, the body of work involves looking back at our own histories as well as our current contexts, and trying to identify moments, connections and experiences that have mattered to our sense of entanglement with the landscapes and beings which make up the 'other than human’ world.

During my time at Birnam I have been exploring my current context, focusing on specific walks that I do regularly, taking time to notice the pathways and what I see and find along the way. I’ve found monoprinting the perfect way to record my pocket finds, items from the forest floor that I pop in my pocket while out in the woods. Large ceramic pieces are also in development, these capture the forms and textures of the things that I find, while not being representative.
